Location

Catanauan lies along the coastal lines of Bondoc Peninsula in the southern part of Quezon (formerly Tayabas) province. It is bounded on the North by the municipality of Lopez , on the northeast by the municipality of Buenavista ; on the east and southeast by the municipality of Mulanay , on the south and southwest by Tayabas bay; and on the west and northwest by the municipality of Gen. Luna , Quezon.
It is approximately 264.205 kilometers from Metro Manila and 128 kilometers from the provincial capital Lucena City.


Area

Seasons

The climate of Catanauan is characterized by dry season from March to May and rainy season from October to December. The Municipality is affected by annual south monsoon wind from July to December.

Language

Being part of the Southern Tagalog Region, 91% of the population speaks Tagalog dialect.The remaining 9% of the population speaks other dialect particularly Bicol and Visayan dialect. Although the language is Tagalog, Catanauanin speaks with very distinct accent (or punto in local dialect) called “Ngani Baya” a language that evolved from the diversed culture caused by the migration of the nearby provinces of Bicol, Marinduque, Visaya and Batanggas.
